Elphinstone Hall

Although this hall was designed and built in 1930 by A Marshall Mackenzie, it looks much older. It was built to take over the functions which the original Great Hall had performed before being torn down in 1870 to make way for Kings College Library; namely, to provide not only a large examination hall, but one which could also be used for dining and recreational purposes, while a series of additional reception rooms in the complex would be able to provide for smaller functions.

Both Paul and Thorsten have visited the hall which is the venue for our festival, and both are thrilled by it, it really is a special venue. Thorsten said that it has a "touch of Harry Potter" about it.

The Linklater Rooms

The Linklater reception rooms, which we will use for some of the workshops, house 'The Linklater Collection' - a superb cross-section of 20th Century Scottish paintings donated to the University of Aberdeen by Eric Linklater's widow, Marjorie. These rooms ajoin the main hall which means that the whole of the festival takes place under one roof.
